Answers Before You Commit

Everything customers ask us before, during and after an installation — grouped so you can skip to what matters.

Getting Started

Will solar actually work on my roof?

South-facing roofs perform best, but east and west orientations are viable too — usually within 15% of optimal. Shading matters more than direction. The free survey gives you a yield forecast specific to your property before you decide anything.

How much does a typical system cost?

It depends on roof size, panel count and whether you add battery storage, so any figure quoted before a survey is guesswork. What we can promise is a fixed price after the survey with nothing hidden in the small print.

How long until it pays for itself?

Most residential systems reach payback somewhere between year seven and year twelve, depending on your consumption pattern and local tariffs. Your survey report includes a projection based on your actual bills rather than an average.

Do I need planning permission?

For most homes, no — rooftop solar usually falls under permitted development. Listed buildings and conservation areas are the common exceptions. We handle any permits that are required as part of the installation.

Installation

How long does the installation take?

Most residential systems are fitted and commissioned in a single day. Larger commercial arrays take two to five days depending on roof access and scaffolding needs.

Do I need to be home during the work?

Someone needs to be there at the start and for the final commissioning, since we test the system against your consumer unit. The middle of the day is fine to leave with the crew.

Will you damage my roof?

Mounting is done with roof hooks that sit under the tiles rather than through them. Our workmanship warranty covers the roof penetration for ten years, and the survey flags any tiles that need replacing beforehand.

Do you use subcontractors?

No. Every install is carried out by our own certified engineers, which is why there is one accountable team from survey through to sign-off.

Performance & Storage

What happens on cloudy days?

Panels still generate in diffuse light, at reduced output — often 10 to 25% of peak. Pairing the array with battery storage covers the shortfall and your evening usage.

Do I need a battery?

Not necessarily. If you are home during the day you will use most of what you generate directly. Batteries make the strongest case for households that are out until evening, or anywhere with frequent outages.

Will it work in a power cut?

Only with a battery and a changeover switch. A grid-tied system without storage shuts down during an outage — that is a safety requirement, so the panels cannot feed a line an engineer might be working on.

Can I monitor how much it is producing?

Yes. Every install includes per-panel monitoring you can check from your phone. We watch the same data, so if output drops unexpectedly we usually spot it before you do.

Warranty & Aftercare

What is covered by the warranty?

Twenty-five years on panel performance and ten on our workmanship, including roof penetrations. Inverters typically carry their own ten to twelve year manufacturer warranty.

What maintenance does a system need?

Very little. An annual check and occasional cleaning is enough for most installations. Rain does most of the work in keeping panels clear.

What if I move house?

The system stays with the property and the warranty transfers to the new owner. We will provide the documentation for your sale pack on request.

What happens to old panels?

Removed panels and all packaging go through certified recycling partners. Nothing we take off a roof goes to landfill.

Still Not Sure?

Ask an engineer directly. No script, no obligation, and no follow-up sales calls unless you want them.
